The Challenge
Gift Vouchers have grown in popularity. Christmas, Valentines, Mothers day, Fathers day and other events offer a good opportunity to drive revenue through gift voucher schemes. However, traditional gift vouchers have limitations:
- Younger audience is not receptive to the purchase of paper gift vouchers
- The security threat of keeping printed paper behind the till
- Inventory of all denominations must be managed
- Limited ability to track the redemption behaviour
- Limited ability to use innovative CRM to drive usage (e.g., reminders to visit the store to redeem before expiry or on special days)
- They are undifferentiated from other gift voucher schemes
The Solution
Our solution addresses the challenges highlighted above.
Customers purchase the gift voucher at a store or on-line through an e-tail website. The M-Gift Voucher is delivered using multi-media messaging (where appropriate) to the recipient’s phone with a personalized message from the sender including the barcode or PIN for redemption of the relevant denomination. It can also be forwarded from the sender to the recipient. The Mobile Gift Voucher is scanned to validate and redeem using a RAPOS™ terminal at the store.
Benefits of the solution:
- Requires no upfront integration with the POS
- Allows brands and retailers to run a cost effective targeted short term (2-3 month) campaign in a matter of days
- Achieves much higher redemption rates (our case studies have shown 4 – 10% redemption rates for push based campaigns and upto 70% for pull based campaigns)
- Collects data on redemptions and customers to better target the offer
- Differentiates the campaign by using innovative approach and offers to drive footfall or sales

Step 1: Customer decides to purchase a mobile gift voucher as a present for a friend. They go to a participating retailer on the RAPOSNet network.
Step 2: They purchase the gift voucher and a unique barcode is sent to the beneficiary.
Step 3: When the beneficiary wishes to redeem the gift voucher at a participating retailer on the RAPOSNet network they scan their phone at the end of the transaction. The mobile gift voucher payment request is sent to the RAPOS™ server.
Step 4: The RAPOS™ server validates and authenticates the payment and sends a confirmation back to the RAPOSNet terminal. Data on the transaction is captured at this point.
Step 5: A confirmation that the mobile gift voucher is valid is displayed on the RAPOSNet terminal. Any remaining credit will be sent in an SMS message to the beneficiary along with a confirmation that their transaction was successful. The retailer can then check the status of customer redemptions online through RAPOS™ manager.
