Virgin Mobile extends use of mobile ticketing

Mobile ticket give away powered by ActiveMedia Technology and Flytxt

22 nd November, 2006, London: Virgin Mobile continues to build on its relationship with mobile ticketing company ActiveMedia Technology and mobile direct-marketing company Flytxt to offer customers access to live music. The latest promotion sees Virgin Mobile offering customers free tickets, via their mobile phone, to see band of the moment The Automatic live in concert.

Virgin Mobile will work with ActiveMedia and Flytxt to give away 300 tickets to the sell out London gig which takes place on Sunday 26th November at Carling Academy Islington. For tickets, Virgin Mobile customers simply text the number of tickets they want to 26666 on a first come first served basis. The lucky customers will then be sent a mobile ticket for redemption at the door using ActiveMedia Technology’s RAPOS ™ (redemption at point of sale) technology.

The Automatic Live mobile ticket giveaway follows the recent launch of Q Jump a mobile loyalty campaign powered by ActiveMedia and Flytxt enabling Virgin Mobile customers to jump to the front of the queue using mobile ticketing technology. The portable nature of ActiveMedia’s mobile ticketing platform enables promoters, sponsors and bands to sell or give-away tickets, regardless of location, without requiring any additional investment in new technology for each venue.

Rosie Newey, Sponsorship & Events Manager, Virgin Mobile said: “The youth market loves mobile ticketing. It is convenient, hassle free and novel and makes a great way to recognise and reward loyalty. The Flytxt SMS solution, working together with ActiveMedia’s RAPOS technology holds the same appeal for us as it does for our customers. Its ease of use, convenience and reliability and no upfront investment enables us to continue to offer our customers access to live music safe in the knowledge that the technology is in place to support us.”

Unlike other mobile ticketing technology ActiveMedia’s unique, patent pending, bar code ticket delivery, management and redemption platform delivers secure tickets to mobile phones which can reduce the cost of ticketing by up to 80 per cent compared to the cost of paper based ticketing.

In addition to offering promoters a cheap, secure ticketing solution mobile ticketing also enables bands to build a contact database, run contests and deliver personalised marketing messages and offers to loyal fans.

Adhish Kulkarni, VP Client Services, Flytxt said: “ Mobile ticketing continues to increase in popularity and we are working with Virgin Mobile to incorporate it into new campaigns and promotions. With entry tickets having a value of anything from one to 100 pounds we are beginning to see the emergence of mobile ticketing as a commercial reality.”

Ramesh Kumar, Business Development Director, ActiveMedia Technology added, “Our mobile tickets are unique in that they can be read by off the shelf webcams yet our software is robust enough to eliminate fraud. Promoters and sponsors, like Virgin Mobile, like the combination of ease of deployment and security ActiveMedia mobile ticketing affords. The continued use of mobile ticketing in Virgin Mobile campaigns is testimony to this.”

Flytxt will provide the delivery and mobile marketing technology to power the campaign while ActiveMedia Technology’s mobile ticket redemption and delivery software, working with standard off the shelf webcameras will be used to authenticate and reconcile the tickets.

About Flytxt – Usable Mobile Marketing

Big mobile players want to organize and execute sophisticated mobile marketing campaigns, in house, every day, without hassle. Historically, the easy-to-use tools just didn’t have the functionality, and the tools with the functionality were usable only by the people that built them.

Flytxt’s NEON has changed all that. A mobile marketing tool that sends and receives messages, targets the relevant audience, tracks the results of that activity, including message receipt and purchases made, feeds that back into your database and reports on all of that in real time. Most important of all, Neon, the useable mobile marketing platform, enables powerful, sophisticated mobile campaigns to be executed by members of the marketing team without reference to the IT department or a specialist agency.

Flytxt is behind the award-winning ‘Orange Wednesdays’ 2 for 1 mobile ticketing promotion and in addition to Orange, Flytxt’s customers include Time Inc, HarperCollins, Comic Relief, Virgin Mobile, British Airways and the Capital Radio Group.

Incorporated in 2000, Flytxt is headquartered in London England, and has offices in Seattle and New York City.
